Why choose Zirconia Crowns?

What is a Dental Crown?

A zirconia crown is a type of dental crown, which is a custom-made cap-like structure that is placed over the natural tooth covering the visible portion of the tooth underneath.

If you have experienced tooth decay or a cavity that is beyond repair by a simple “filling”, a crown is the ideal treatment to restore the tooth and ensure that it’s functional, protected, and aesthetic! This restorative solution can also correct how you bite and eliminate any color variations.

Why would I need a Dental Crown?

  • You have a cavity that is too large for filling
  • You have a missing tooth and need a bridge
  • You need to cover a dental implant
  • You have a cracked or worn down tooth
  • You had a root canal treatment and need to protect the restored tooth
  • You want to cover a discolored or badly shaped tooth
  • You want to improve your smile

What are crowns made of?

  • Crowns can be made from several materials including metal alloys, porcelain, composite resin, or ceramics.
  • Your dentist will consider your tooth location, position of gum tissue, smile, and tooth function to help you choose the right material.

How is a bridge different from a crown?

  • A bridge is very similar to a crown. While a crown replaces a single tooth, a bridge is used to mimic three or more teeth.
  • If you choose a bridge, an impression will be taken of your bite. Then, the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth will be prepared as they would for crowns. The bridge will be a single prosthetic that is shaped to look like three teeth.

How long do they last?
On average, dental crowns last between 10 and 15 years. The lifespan of a crown depends on the amount of wear the crown is exposed to, how well you follow good oral hygiene, and your personal habits (you should avoid grinding or clenching your teeth, chewing ice, biting fingernails, and using your teeth to open packaging).
