Sedation Dentistry

Sedation can help anxious and fearful patients receive the dental care they need while feeling relaxed and comfortable. Great Smile Dental offers sedation dentistry as an option for any patient undergoing a dental treatment that can be invasive or uncomfortable. We use dental sedation to offer relief to those who have dental anxiety as well.

Our team will discuss your personal concerns, needs, and necessary dental treatments to determine if the use of sedation would be beneficial to you.

If you’re someone who feels stress or anxiety about going to the dentist, you’re not the only one. We understand these concerns and take them seriously. With sedation dentistry services, we can better meet your needs and ensure you get the consistent dental care you need.

DENTAL SEDATION IN PORT ST. LUCIE

We offer oral sedation and nitrous oxide, both of which will allow the patient to be alert and responsive during treatment but able to feel completely relaxed and stress-free. Most patients have little or no memory of the procedure afterward.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Conscious sedation is considered safe for most patients, allowing you to be in control of your body without feelings of anxiety or fear. We will discuss your medical history before recommending or using sedation to ensure your safety.

We offer two types of sedation, each of which has benefits and drawbacks depending on your specific needs.

Your dentist can prescribe an oral sedative, often with an at-home dose. Patients will need to arrange a ride to and from the office. With oral sedation, you’ll still be completely conscious during your procedure. So, you won’t be put under, although many patients fall asleep.

Inhaled through a tiny cannula placed beneath the nose, nitrous oxide has the benefit of taking effect and wearing off almost immediately. You can drive yourself to and from your appointment unless directed otherwise by your dentist.

When you visit Great Smile Dental, your dental team will work with you to determine which sedation dentistry options are best for you. We want you to feel as comfortable as possible, and conscious sedation options make it easier for you to receive vital dental care.

THE BENEFITS OF SEDATION DENTISTRY

Sedation dentistry can also support people with disabilities or other needs. We want you and anyone in your care to feel safe with us.

If you have dental anxieties or phobias, you may put off going to the dentist. If you dread going to the dentist, you may not get the routine cleanings and exams you need. Without regular visits to the dentist, you’re at an increased risk for issues like gum disease, tooth infections, cavities, and more.

It’s vital to receive dental care when you need it. Often, the longer you put it off, the worse the issues get. This can lead to more uncomfortable appointments. But, with sedation dentistry, you can feel more relaxed during any appointment, which encourages many patients to receive consistent care.

For patients with more severe anxiety, stress can make it harder to complete appointments in a timely manner. If you’re trying to manage intense stress during your visit, you may need to take frequent breaks. While we will always do what we can to accommodate you, efficient visits are easier for you. With sedation dentistry, we can expedite the process.
