Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction may be deemed necessary in the event of severe infection, tooth trauma, or as part of a treatment plan to improve your bite function and dental health. Great Smile Dental offers the convenience of complete dental care under one roof, including tooth extractions.

Tooth extractions are typically a simple procedure and are completed in one visit. Most patients are able to be kept comfortable with a local anesthetic. Our office also offers sedation options if needed or requested.

While tooth extractions may make some patients anxious, the process is much more comfortable and efficient than ever before. At Great Smile Dental, we utilize dental technology and prioritize patient comfort to ensure you have a healthy smile.

WHEN IS A TOOTH EXTRACTION NECESSARY?

An impacted tooth occurs when there’s not enough room for the tooth to erupt. Wisdom teeth usually fall into this category.

If your mouth isn’t big enough for all your teeth, overcrowding occurs. This makes it harder to chew and can lead to cavities and abscesses.

While minor chips and cracks may be fixable without removing a tooth, damage to the root of the tooth cannot be repaired.

If you have a painful, damaged tooth, don’t wait to make an appointment. The sooner we can treat the issue, the more likely we are to prevent tooth extractions. We want to save you from uncomfortable symptoms.

WISDOM TEETH EXTRACTIONS

The third molars are also known as the “wisdom teeth” and typically begin to erupt or to make their presence known in the late teen years. Few patients are fortunate to have enough room in their bite to allow for wisdom teeth to grow in normally.

Most will need to have their wisdom teeth removed due to the impact on their bite, neighboring teeth, and overall oral health. Wisdom tooth removal typically occurs in the late teens and early twenties, before teeth that are impacted or crowded can affect dental health.

The procedure can often be performed in the comfort of our Port St. Lucie dental office. We offer dental sedation options for complete comfort and our team will follow up to ensure that you recover well.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The tooth extraction procedure will begin with making sure that you are comfortable and relaxed. A local anesthetic will be used if dental sedation is not in place. Once you are numb we will clean the area where the tooth is being removed.

Your dentist will gently remove the tooth using slow techniques. The wound will be packed with sterile gauze to aid in blood clotting and keep the area free of debris.

We will provide post-treatment care instructions for a healthy recovery. A soft diet may be recommended and we will schedule a follow-up visit if needed.

If you experience sudden pain, a recurrence of bleeding, or swelling that is not going away please contact our office immediately.

Tooth Extractions for a Healthier Smile

While some patients worry about the tooth extraction process, these procedures are actually meant to relieve pain and improve our quality of life. When you have a damaged or infected tooth, it causes painful symptoms and can make it more difficult to chew, speak, and eat.

After removing a tooth, we then provide restorative dentistry options, such as dental implants and bridges, to restore your smile’s aesthetics and function. We provide sedation dentistry to ensure the extraction is as easy on you as possible if you need help relaxing or have dental anxieties.

We want you to have a pain-free, beautiful smile that you feel proud of in pictures and real life. If you have a tooth that’s causing you trouble, call our office today to request an appointment!
