Sedation Dentistry

Sedation can help anxious and fearful patients receive the dental care they need while feeling relaxed and comfortable. Great Smile Dental offers sedation dentistry for those suffering from dental anxiety and as an option for any patient undergoing a dental treatment that can be invasive or uncomfortable. Our team will discuss your personal concerns, needs and dental treatments to determine if the use of sedation is beneficial.

DENTAL SEDATION IN PORT ST. LUCIE

Great Smile Dental offers patients conscious sedation options when undergoing a dental procedure in our office. Your dentist will evaluate your dental health and discuss your medical history to ensure that sedation is safe for you and determine the best sedation option for your needs.

We offer oral sedation and nitrous oxide, both of which will allow the patient to be alert and responsive during treatment but able to feel completely relaxed and stress-free. Most patients have little or no memory of the procedure afterward.

The effective use of sedation can enable an anxious patient to undergo more than one dental treatment in a single visit, especially if they have been avoiding the dentist and are suffering from poor oral health.

SEDATION DENTISTRY – WHAT TO EXPECT

Conscious sedation is considered safe for most patients, allowing them to be in control of their body without feelings of anxiety or fear. We will discuss your medical history before recommending or using sedation to ensure your safety.

We offer two types of sedation, each of which has benefits and drawbacks depending on your specific needs.

  • Oral sedation: your dentist can prescribe an oral sedative, often with an at-home dose. Patients will need to arrange a ride to and from the office.
  • Nitrous oxide: inhaled through a tiny cannula placed beneath the nose, nitrous oxide has the benefit of taking effect and wearing off almost immediately.
